Quick verdict

SiteGround is the host we recommend when support and reliability matter more than the lowest possible price. The company is based in Bulgaria, runs all of its hosting on Google Cloud infrastructure, and builds its own tools, from the Site Tools control panel to the Speed Optimizer plugin for WordPress. The result is a polished, well-maintained platform that suits small businesses and anyone who wants help to be a chat away.

The downside is cost. SiteGround’s intro prices are competitive, but its renewal prices are among the steepest of any mainstream shared host, and the entry plan is fairly tight on storage. You also won’t get a free domain. If you can live with that, or you plan to compare offers when your term ends, SiteGround is one of the most dependable choices around.

Bottom line

Buy SiteGround GrowBig if you want excellent support, staging and room for several sites. Note the renewal price in the table before you commit, and set a reminder to review it.

Pros & cons

What we liked

  • Support with a long-standing reputation for quality
  • Runs on Google Cloud with data centers on several continents
  • Own caching stack and Speed Optimizer plugin for WordPress
  • Free daily backups and SSL on every plan
  • Site Tools panel is clean and easy to learn

What we didn’t

  • Renewal prices are much higher than the intro price
  • No free domain
  • Entry plan has limited storage
  • No cPanel, if you're used to it
  • Short billing terms cost noticeably more

Pricing & plans

SiteGround sells three shared hosting plans: StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek. StartUp covers a single site and is fine for a simple blog. GrowBig is the sweet spot for most people because it supports multiple sites and adds on-demand backups and staging. GoGeek suits agencies and heavier stores that need more resources and Git-based workflows. See the current prices in the table below.

All three plans include the same core features: free SSL, daily backups, email accounts, the caching stack and the built-in CDN. What changes as you move up is the number of sites, storage, server resources, and extras like staging and priority support.

How SiteGround renewals work

The intro price applies to your first term only, and the jump at renewal is bigger than at most hosts. Longer first terms lock in the discount for longer, though SiteGround doesn’t offer the very long prepay options some rivals do. Speed test results

SiteGround’s speed comes from its own stack rather than an off-the-shelf one. Servers run on Google Cloud’s network with SSD storage, Nginx handles static files and dynamic caching, and Memcached is available for object caching. On WordPress, the free Speed Optimizer plugin ties these together and adds image optimization and file minification. Higher plans also get more server resources per account.

Running on Google Cloud gives SiteGround redundant hardware and a strong network underneath, and the company monitors its servers around the clock. The meter above shows what our own monitor recorded. SiteGround publishes an uptime guarantee with compensation if it falls short; read the current terms on their site.

Ease of use

SiteGround replaced cPanel with its own Site Tools panel several years ago. It’s tidy and well organized, with every setting grouped under a short sidebar menu, and it’s quick to pick up even if you’ve never managed a site before. Power users get SSH, Git and WP-CLI on top.

  • Setup: a start wizard installs WordPress and adds the SiteGround plugins for caching and security.
  • Migration: a free WordPress migrator plugin moves an existing site yourself; professional migration is a paid extra.
  • Staging: one-click staging on GrowBig and GoGeek, with Git integration on GoGeek.
  • Backups: automatic daily backups on all plans, with on-demand copies on higher tiers.

Small touches add up. Site Tools shows clear security and performance settings, the SiteGround plugins handle caching and basic hardening without extra configuration, and nothing in the dashboard tries to sell you add-ons at every step. It feels like a tool built for running sites, not for upselling.

Customer support

Support is the reason many people choose SiteGround, and its reputation here has held up for years. Help is available around the clock through live chat and a ticket system, with an AI assistant handling simple questions first. Agents are known for solving WordPress problems themselves rather than sending you to a help article. GoGeek customers get priority handling. Check which contact options are offered in your country before you buy.

The same applies to how SiteGround handles problems behind the scenes. Its tools for monitoring, automatic updates and backups are designed to catch issues before you notice them, which matters most when your website pays the bills.

Frequently asked questions

Is SiteGround worth the higher price?

For business sites, often yes. You’re paying for reliable infrastructure, daily backups and support that can actually fix problems. For a hobby blog, a cheaper host will do the job.

Does SiteGround use cPanel?

No. It uses its own Site Tools panel, which covers everything cPanel does for a typical site and is simpler to navigate.

Where are SiteGround’s servers?

SiteGround runs on Google Cloud data centers in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Pick the location closest to most of your visitors when you sign up.

Can I get a refund?

SiteGround offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on shared hosting. Domains and some extras aren’t refundable, so read the terms before you buy.

Is there a SiteGround coupon code?

See our SiteGround coupons page for the deals we’ve checked recently. Discounts apply to the first term, not renewals.
